Start with something familiar.
Pick one everyday activity. Use a few pictures to make each part of it clear.
Make your first picture routine
- Choose one activity. Getting dressed, setting the table, or preparing to leave home are possible starting points.
- Choose the pictures. Find a picture for each meaningful action. Choose the person variant that fits when one is available.
- Arrange the steps. Put them in the order the activity happens. Split a complicated action into smaller steps when that helps.
- Add familiar words. Give each picture a short caption. Use the words you already use together.
- Review it together. Check that the pictures are understandable, and adjust anything that is confusing.
- Use the routine. Open its screen view or print it. You can return to the builder to change the sequence later.
Find the words that fit
Use one clear action per caption: “Put on shoes,” “Pick up my bag,” or “Open the door.” A familiar phrase can be more useful than a formal label. Choose the language and words the person understands.
Keep the routine specific to the actual activity. If tying laces is a separate task, give it its own picture rather than hiding it inside “Get ready.”
Take your routine off-screen
- Open the print options in the routine builder and choose the existing format that fits your use.
- Use the browser’s print dialog to print the routine, or choose its PDF destination to save a file.
- Check the preview before printing: pictures and captions should fit, and the step order should be easy to follow.
